Scrap Creative Reuse

Scrap Creative Reuse — Thryv Foundation

Who we are:
SCRAP Creative Reuse is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community. We operate retail centers in six communities around the nation, including Ann Arbor, Michigan; Baltimore, Maryland; Denton, Texas; Humboldt, California; Portland, Oregon; and Richmond, Virginia.

How were we affected:
SCRAP’s main sources of revenue are retail sales of creative reuse materials and enrollment fees from our education program. When COVID-19 pressures began to build, our administrative team adapted quickly by launching an online store over the course of one week. The e-commerce model still depended on local pickup, however, due to the unique nature of the materials that we sell. As stay home orders became stricter, we were forced to shut down the stores completely. Luckily, we have an incredible support system of volunteers working to maintain SCRAP's operations during this time. We know that when we open our doors, we will be stronger than ever.

How did the Thryv Foundation Grant help your business:
The Thryv Foundation grant will make a huge impact for SCRAP. Because our business relies heavily on retail sales and education programs, our monthly expenses are becoming increasingly difficult to cover. This grant will help us keep crucial services up and running, even while the stores are closed. We are so thankful for the Thryv Foundation.

What are your future goals and what do you hope to achieve:
We have big dreams for SCRAP! Continuing to expand our education program is always a priority. The way we see it, creative expression shouldn't break the bank or the environment. We want to spread that message to communities around the nation and become leaders in the creative reuse movement.
